Travis County Appraisal District (TCAD) announced they will send 144,802 notices of changed value. Except for new construction, none of these are residential. TCAD said they were not able to value residential property in Travis County. Travis County was able to value commercial properties, and most of the increases are for commercial accounts.

Travis County Appraisal Districts is causing inequity in the tax rolls by increasing commercial values while leaving residential values flat.

TCAD lost access to Austin MLS data and is saying they can’t value houses without it. It is surprising Travis County Appraisal District can’t value houses without the MLS data since there is so much information available from Zillow and similar sites, including sales prices.

TCAD may be avoiding revaluing residential to address the issue of sales disclosures with the legislation. Sales prices are currently private in Texas.
